Student accused in drunken theft of Clarkson truck

POTSDAM — A Clarkson University student was arrested after he stole a university maintenance truck early Sunday, village police said.

Ryan J. Whitehouse, 22, of Troy, was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and first-offense driving while intoxicated in connection with the incident at about 1:30 a.m.

Campus security officers said they saw the truck pulling out of the maintenance facility when it shouldn’t have been and followed it. The truck never left campus, and Mr. Whitehouse allegedly got out and ran from security officers, who called Potsdam Police for assistance.

Mr. Whitehouse’s blood alcohol content was 0.14 percent, police said. The state threshold for intoxication is 0.08 percent.

He was released and is scheduled to appear in Potsdam Village Court at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 12.
