Potsdam girls shutout Saranac Lake; Salmon River blanked

The Potsdam Central and Salmon River girls hockey teams finished on opposite sides of High School League shutouts on Monday.

Potsdam 7, Saranac Lake 0: In Saranac Lake, the visiting Lady Sandstoners broke open a close game with five second-period goals to pick up their second win in three days.

Megan Stevenson broke through for the only goal Potsdam wound need just 1:03 into the game, unassisted, then made it 2-0 at 2:39 of the second period assisted by Emily LaRoe.

Peyton Warden contributed a pair of goals toward the winning cause. Jordan Emerson tallied a goal and assist while Paige McCabe and Ally Miller connected for the other Potsdam goals and Kelsey Green fashioned a pair of assists. Stevenson also recorded a solo helper along with Kirstin Barkley and Kalie Grant.

Eighth-grader Sidney Molnar turned aside the six shots she faced to backstop the shutout in her high school debut. Sierra Nye made 30 saves through the first two periods working the Red Storm crease before giving way to Katey Snyder, who handled anbother 16 shots in the final frame.

The Lady Sandstoners return to action on Wednesday at home against St. Lawrence Central starting at 6:30 p.m. at Pine Street Arena.

Beekmantown 5, Salmon River 0: At Tom Cavanaugh Arena, the visiting Eagles skated to a 3-0 lead in the first period and never looked back for the win. Alexis Guay helped seal the win with a pair of third-period goals, both assisted by Emily Raville, who struck for one of the other Beekmantown goals in the first period along with Kallie Villemaire and Katie Matott. Clara Giroux and Amanda Peterson each earned solo assists in the game while Kayleigh Bell was credited with nine saves in posting the shutout.

Becca Leroux stopped 40 of the shots she faced tending the Salmon River goal.

The Lady Shamrocks are slated to play on the road against Canton at SUNY Canton on Wednesday starting at 4:15 p.m.
