MASSENA - The Massena Central School District Board of Education held its meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in order to ensure it was over before the start of the Christmas concert at the school scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
While the meeting was technically called to order at 5:30 p.m., the public session, which was over before the concert, did not begin until approximately 6:45, following what board President John Boyce called, a non-public private meeting with the boards attorney.
Prior to breaking from open session for that meeting, no reason was given for the private meeting.
Following the meeting, Mr. Boyce said what was discussed at the meeting was attorney-client privilege, again declining to state the purpose of it as required by state law governing executive sessions.
Mr. Boyce said he did not consider that meeting an executive session.
It was not an executive session, he said. It was a non-public meeting that was attorney-client privilege.
