OGDENSBURG Four Buffalo men are in St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, accused of taking part in a crack cocaine distribution ring in the Ogdensburg area.
City police in a raid Thursday evening at 325 Belmont Courts arrested:
■ Charles J.H. Caviness, also known as Whiz and Chuck, 24, of 438 Wyoming Ave.;
■ Eldridge L Gossom, 25, of 453 Newburgh Ave.;
■ Andre L. Dre Wilson, 40, of 81 Walden Ave., Apt. 1; and
■ Tige K. Jeeb Smith Jr., 24, of 338 Longnecker St.
Each was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
They were arraigned in city court and sent to county jail. Caviness, Wilson and Smith had bail set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. Gossom was held on $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond.
Police said the four were arrested as a result of an ongoing investigation into crack cocaine trafficking in the city. Police said the four were part of a distribution ring that predominantly is made up of suspects from Buffalo, but also included some local people.
Police seized a quantity of crack cocaine and cash at the apartment, but did not state how much.
It was unclear whether the four were living in the Belmont Courts apartment, where police executed a search warrant. Police refused to supply any information outside of what was in a news release issued Friday evening.
Ogdensburg police were assisted by members of the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force, which includes law enforcement representatives from the county Sheriffs Department, Gouverneur police and Potsdam police, U.S. Border Patrol and state police.
City police said more arrests are pending.
