CAPE VINCENT — A state prison inmate was charged by state police Tuesday with first-degree possession of dangerous prison contraband and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Joseph Matt, 31, now incarcerated at Riverview Correctional Facility, Ogdensburg, is charged in an incident July 5 at Cape Vincent Correctional Facility, where he was found possessing a soup can lid, police said.

He was arraigned in Cape Vincent Town Court and awaits grand jury action.

Mr. Matt is serving a term of up to two years given him in November 2011 in Oneida County for attempted second-degree burglary, according to the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision website.
