POTSDAM - When school superintendents and transportation directors were looking at the weather in the area this morning, most areas in the region were experiencing rain.
But as dawn broke the rain turned to sleet and then snow making roads, driveways, sidewalks and parking lots extremely slippery. Police and other first responders have been called out to several accidents. Among those were:
Canton Fire and Rescue responded to a two-vehicle accident reported as a head on collision with possible serious injuries at 7:40 a.m. on County Route 25, near Parkway Motors, in the town of Canton.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue responded to a one-vehicle rollover on County Route 47 at 7:15 a.m. Friday. The male driver was reported to be out and walking around his vehicle, according to emergency radio transmissions.
The St. Lawrence County Sheriffs Department, Potsdam Fire and Potsdam Rescue responded to a one-vehicle accident on state Route 345, near the American Legion, in the town of Potsdam. The female driver was complaining of back pain after striking a utility pole.
State police responded to a reported on a car in a ditch off state Route 37 near Bobs Motel in the town of Massena just before 8 a.m.
Two schools - Brushton-Moira and St. Regis Falls - are on a one-hour delay.
