Two motor vehicle accidents result in minor injuries Wednesday

A driver and passenger sustained minor injuries after a tractor-trailer rear-ended their car on Route 37 outside of Ogdensburg Wednesday.

Lois A. Lithgow, 80, of Ottawa, Ontario, was stopped behind a school bus on Route 37 between Madlin and Houmiel Camp roads at 3:50 p.m. when her vehicle was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer driven by Saciid H. Kulaim, 47, Omaha, Neb. Mr. Kulaim could not stop the rig in time, state police said.

State police said Mrs. Lithgow was treated for a minor upper arm injury. Passenger Jocelyne Davison, 76, was treated for a minor neck injury. Mr. Kulaim was ticketed by state police for following too closely.

* At approximately 6:05 p.m., while traveling west, Scotty G. Brown, 48, struck a horse-drawn buggy traveling east on Taylor Road.

Mr. Brown crossed into the eastbound lane while making a sharp turn around a corner, state police said. He struck both the horse and buggy.

The operator of the buggy, Jacob U. Hershberger, 21, suffered an injury to his head, but refused medical treatment. The horse, after suffering extensive injuries, was euthanized by a veterinarian at the scene. No tickets were issued.

The investigation is still ongoing, state police said.
