MASSENA - Four area students have been nominated by Rep. William Owens for a service academy.
Mr. Owens nominated Matthew Whitcomb of Massena and Sarah-Maria Choong of Potsdam for the United States Military Academy, West Point.
He also nominated Jordan Hart of Massena and Matthew Whitcomb of Massena for the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.
Altogether, Mr. Owens, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, nominated 21 students to service academies, according to release issued by his office on Monday.
A member of Congress can nominate students to attend an academy if the students meet eligibility requirements and submit a detailed application. The four service academies that accept nominations include the Air Force, Army, Merchant Marines and the Navy.
Americas military academies accept some of the best, brightest and most committed students from across the country who have committed to serve, Mr. Owens. I look forward to watching these young Americans do great things, and I commend them and their families on this significant achievement.
