WADDINGTON - Rednecks of all walks of life are invited to the community’s Redneck Winter Games Feb. 17.

Hosted by JC’s River Run Bar & Grill, 17 Bowling Court, the Redneck-themed Olympic-style games will be part of the St. Lawrence River Showdown Jamboree, which will kick off fundraising efforts for the Bassmasters Elite Series Tournament coming in August. The games start at noon.

The committee hopes to raise $100,000 to host the national bass tournament. The funds will cover the cost of various expenses and the $60,000 host fee, which Waddington is contracted to pay.

The tournament could have an economic impact on the St. Lawrence River Valley of $2 million.

In addition to the jamboree being a “family-fun day designed to ease the midwinter blues,” the event will be opportunity for people to ask committee members questions about the tournament, coordinator Deanna Shampine said.

For an entry fee of $100 per team, teams of four adults will compete in “redneck” games such as turkey bowling, toilet seat horse shoes, a hay bale toss, snowball shot-put, tug-of-war and more.

Although anyone is welcome to compete, local businesses and organizations are encouraged to sponsor teams to compete for redneck bragging rights, Ms. Shampine said.

Prizes will be awarded for grand champion rednecks and best redneck team costume.

Children’s games will also be available, as well as a silent auction, 50-50 and prize giveaways. Entertainment will be provided. Todd K. Truax of Q-Country 102.9 radio will be master of cermeonies for the event. Admission to the entertainment, auction and raffles will be $5 at the door of JC’s River Run Bar & Grill.

A highlight of the jamboree will be the introduction of a special six-month-long 50/50 raffle titled: “It’s your prize - How big do you want it?” Tickets are $10 each and will be sold until the first week of August or until sold out. Three thousand tickets will be printed, giving the opportunity for the raffle winner to go home with $15,000. The raffle is organized by William Hosmer, owner of Hosmer’s Marina in Ogdensburg, and is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Ogdensburg. All proceeds will benefit the St Lawrence River Showdown. Printing services for the tickets were donated by Commercial Press Inc., Canton. Drawing for the 50/50 will take place in August during the Elite Series weekend weigh-in at Whittaker Park.
