MASSENA – Mr. Louie E. Welch, 62, of 13 George Street, unexpectedly passed away January 30, 2013 at his home.

Louie was born March 9, 1950 in Malone, the son of Everett D. and Dorothy May Charette Welch. He graduated from Massena High School and served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Louie was a millright at Alcoa for over 30 years until his retirement. He was also a skilled carpenter and jack of all trades. He was a member of the Gerald R. Roy Amvets Post #4, American Legion Post #79, Marine Corps League Akwesasne Detachment #566 and the Massena Moose Lodge #1110. He enjoyed playing cards with his buddies, socializing with his many friends, and spending time with his family, especially his mother. Louie was a friend to all that knew him.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Silmser of Massena; his brother, Steven J. Welch of Massena; his sisters, Sandra and Earl Cunningham of Massena and Lou Fitch of Agawam, MA; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father on September 20, 1967 and his brother, Thomas Everett Welch on August 29, 2011.

Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Saturday 10:00AM until 11:30 PM. A memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday 12:00 PM at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Donald J. Manfred, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in St. Edmund’s Cemetery, Ellenburg.
