HOGANSBURG — The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe is holding a gun buyback from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department, 818 Route 37.

Anyone can turn in unwanted firearms for cash. All guns will be accepted with no questions asked, a tribal news release stated. Weapons must be transported legally and brought in a case.

Those turning in assault rifles will get $200; working shotguns or rifles, $100; and BB guns and non-working shotguns, $25 to $50. Handguns also will be accepted for a payment to be determined on site, according to the tribe.

A previous buyback netted 41 weapons, some of which were possessed illegally.

Franklin County also is sponsoring a gun buyback, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at three sites: the 911 building on Bare Hill Road in Malone, the Dickinson fire station on Church Street, and the Chateaugay fire station on Lake Street.

Anyone can turn in firearms for cash at those places, with no questions asked.
