Michael L. Killop passed away unexpectedly on 2/9/13 at UTMB hospital in Galveston, Tx with family and loved ones at his bedside. Michael was born on December 17, 1948 in Massena, NY. A short time later his family moved to Ogdensburg, NY, where he grew up and later graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy. After graduation, Mike moved to Rochester, NY where he was employed for several years. In 2001, Mike began a new life in Galveston, Tx. when he joined family there. There he accumulated numerous new friends, who quickly became his extended family and were responsible for much of the happiness that Mike experienced in his last several years.

Mike is survived by sisters Pamela (David) Hammons and their children Tim and Sandy, Tennessee; Kathryn Simpson, Florida (formerly from Tx) and her children Ed and Jodi; Elizabeth Patrick, Tennessee; one brother Kevin and brother-in-law Jim, from Alvin, Tx and special friend Becky, Galveston. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many close friends.

Over the years, Mike faced challenges that might have been insurmountable to many, but he always tackled these issues with strength and determination, never complaining. Mike was extremely positive and would usually be seen with his familiar smile intact. He gave encouragement to others and was always there to help those in need, seldom asking anything from others.

Mike had requested that there be no formal visitation or services. Therefore, a small, private tribute to Mike has already been held with Mike’s immediate family and his beloved friends participating together in sharing their special remembrances of his life. The family extends much gratitude to Mike’s close friend, Marie, and others who hosted this touching celebration of his life. Mike will be greatly missed, but not soon forgotten.
