The Ogdensburg Fire Department promoted and appointed personnel on Friday.

John W. Robinson, 59, a 25-year veteran of the department and its arson investigator, was sworn in as temporary captain. He replaces Kenneth J. Stull, who last month was named temporary assistant chief. He occupies the position vacated by Provisional Chief Michael J. Farrell.

“This is the best job that I’ve ever had,” Mr. Robinson said of his firefighting career.

His son, Michael E., 27, signed on with the department in November 2011.

“My dad had a big part in it,” the younger Robinson said. “It is a great job.”

Jason T. Bouchard and Patrick A. LeClair, both 27, were also sworn in as firefighters Friday.

Mr. Bouchard’s appointment is permanent, as he was offered the job last month by Mr. Farrell’s predecessor, Steven M. Badlam, retired chief. He is excited about his career choice.

“It is a great way to give back to the community,” he sad.

Mr. LeClair, whose appointment is temporary because his job was offered to him by Mr. Farrell, is looking forward to becoming a firefighter as well.

“I guess that I always wanted to be one,” he said.

Mr. Farrell, who replaced Mr. Badlam on Tuesday, is provisional because he needs to take a Civil Service test with other applicants to create a list of candidates.

From that list, one of the top three scorers will be chosen for the permanent chief position. The test will be held in January.

Until a permanent chief is in place, the appointments of Mr. Stull and Mr. LeClair will remain temporary.
