CANTON –St. Lawrence University’s Laurentian Singers will hit the road in early March to kick off their spring break tour, which will take place in cities throughout the Northeast.

The choir will perform in Syracuse, .; Philadelphia; Baltimore; and Washington, D.C., beginning Friday. The concerts listed below are open to the public and free of charge.

For this year’s tour repertoire, Director Barry Torres has chosen an eclectic mix of American, European and African-based music. The program will feature several Laurentian Singers as instrumentalists playing violin, fiddle, guitar, African percussion and ukelele.

Public Performance Dates and Locations:

Friday: 8 p.m., Most Holy Rosary Parish, Syracuse.

Sunday: 5 p.m., St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Philadelphia

March 13: 7:30 p.m., Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Baltimore

March 17: 11 a.m., Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church, Washington, D.C.

While in the nation’s capital, the choir will meet with U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), a 1975 graduate of St. Lawrence University. On March 15, they will sing in the Capitol rotunda and tour the White House.

In addition to their public performances, the Laurentian Singers will visit and perform at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Baltimore and both the KIPP DC: Promise Academy and College Preparatory in Washington, D.C.

The Laurentian Singers are a select coeducational choir of 24 undergraduate singers and continues its 67-year tradition of choral excellence in 2012-13. The group has won wide acclaim since its founding and in addition to their many performances on campus and in the community, the ensemble has toured extensively.

In recent years, they have toured in New York, Boston, New Orleans, Puerto Rico, France and Central Europe. Their wide-ranging repertoire, drawn from music of many styles and countries, reflects the spirit of the liberal arts experience at St. Lawrence.
