CANTON - The Canton Village Board has scheduled a special meeting for 5 p.m. today to appoint a new golf course superintendent for the Partridge Run Golf Course and Country Club.

Henry “Skip” Wason had served as golf course superintendent since 1994 when the village built the golf course off State Street Road.

At the village board’s Nov. 19 meeting, board members voted to terminate Mr. Wason’s existing eight-year contract which had one more year remaining. The board that night also agreed to seek a replacement and advertised for the position.

The current village budget includes an annual contractual fee of $56,000 for the position.

Mr. Wason, 6 Pleasant St., said he received a letter from the board that did not include an explanation for their decision.

In January. he said he met with village board members in executive session to discsus the situation. He has also he hired an attorney, Meredith Savitt, Albany.

Mr. Wason said he has submitted an application for the position and wants to get back to the job he held for 18 years.

“I’ve had an excellent work history. We’re one of the best maintained golf courses in the north country,” he said.

Mayor David P. Curry has declined to discuss the situation because it is a personnel matter.

He said the village will have the job filled before the golf season starts April 15.
