CANTON His name isnt official in fact, SUNY representatives have denied that hes their choice but if one were to read the tea leaves, Jeremy D. Brown appears likely to be SUNY Cantons next interim president.
Mr. Brown was in Canton Monday to discuss the position with campus leaders.
Jeremy Brown was on campus today to meet with the SUNY Canton College Council as an interim president candidate, said Gregory E. Kie, university spokesman.
While college council members acknowledge that Mr. Brown was on campus, they would not reveal what was discussed in an executive session with Mr. Brown and SUNY Provost David K. Lavallee.
College Council Chairman Ronald M. ONeill said the council has not spoken with any other potential candidate for the interim presidency.
SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher could make her recommendations for the interim presidencies at SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam as early as next weeks Board of Trustees meeting. The board then has to approve the recommendations.
Mr. Brown, until recently the president of Dowling College, Long Island, served as Cantons provost from 2003 to 2007.
After leaving SUNY Canton, Mr. Brown became president of Edinboro University, Pennsylvania, but has kept a home in the town of Canton.
Mr. Brown is also a finalist for the presidencies at Lake Region State College in Devils Lake, N.D., and Portland Community College in Oregon.
Mr. Brown would replace interim SUNY Canton President Carli S. Schiffner, who took the position Sept. 1 after longtime President Joseph L. Kennedy stepped down. Ms. Schiffner will take over as president of Wenatchee Valley College, Wenatchee, Wash., after stepping down in July.
At SUNY Potsdam, President John F. Schwaller will also step down in July after more than seven years of service.
