CRIMINAL CONTEMPT - MASSENA - Village police charged Michael J. Mitchell, 31, of 126 Liberty Ave., Massena, with first-degree criminal contempt and second-degree harassment - physical contact on Wednesday stemming from an investigation into an incident earlier in the day at 126 Liberty Ave.
He was arraigned by Massena Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
Police said Mitchell violated an order of protection issued by Massena Justice Eric Gustafson on Dec. 2, 2012. He allegedly pushed Christine C. Lawrence during a domestic dispute at about 7 a.m. Wednesday, and also allegedly kicked a portable heater into her big toe on her right foot, causing a small cut. The order of protection is in effect until May 31.
He had been charged by village police on Dec. 2 with endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree harassment - physical contact.
In a statement she signed for police, Ms. Lawrence said that Mitchell, who she described as her boyfriend, looked at an text on an old phone and got jealous.
Michael started to yell at me and pushed me. Michael kicked a portable heater and it cut my big toe on my right food. This was the end of the argument, she wrote in her statement.
