AGGRAVATED HARASSMENT - MASSENA - Massena-based state police charged Alan T. Charleson, 38, of 227A state Route 37B, Massena, with second-degree harassment Wednesday stemming from an incident that took place at approximately 1:07 p.m. March 2 in the town of Massena.
Troopers said Charleson called Lisa Arquette after being told not to do so and threatened bodily harm.
Charleson was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and released on his own recognizance to reappear April 12. A no harassment order was also issued.
In a statement she signed for police, Ms. Arquette said Charleson was an ex-tenant who she had evicted because of problems he was allegedly causing with other tenants at her rental property at 281 Main St., Massena.
Ms. Arquette said she had texted Charleson on March 2 and asked him to call her regarding money he allegedly owed her.
Alan called and I asked Alan if we could set up a time to discuss the money he still owes me from when he was renting. Alan became enraged and started swearing at me on the phone. I told him that we can handle it in court and not to call me anymore. He then called me back and continued swearing and made a threat to kick my —-, she said in her statement.
Ms. Arquette said Charleson sent her some text messages and she told him not to contact her a second time.
It finally stopped at around 1:15 p.m., she said.
Charleson, in a statement he signed for police, suggested he did not owe Ms. Arquette any money. He said his former landlord had been harassing him for the past four months.
Her husband had evicted me from their property due to problems with other neighbors in the building. Since then she has been calling me and texting me about money she claimed I owe her from a water bill. I never had the water bill in my name because she owned the property. Lisa has been telling me that I owe her money for this, but she will not give me an amount of what I owe, he said in his statement.
Charleson said Ms. Arquette has called and texted him non stop since this happened.
She has been showing up at my new rental late at night, pounding on the door and honking the horn. This has been happening for the past three months. She has also been in contact with friends of mine making threats of taking me to court, Charleson wrote.
He said one of his friends gave Ms. Arquette $50 just for her to leave me alone. She has also been leaving notes on my door saying that she was taking me to court. Yesterday, Lisa called me several times. I got upset with her over what has been going on over time. I did yell at her on the phone due to the frustration she has caused me.
