Massena: Maude Violet (Vallance) LaChance was born on January 10, 1925 on Croiles Island, New York to Lela May Harris and Arthur Valiance. Maude Violet (Vallance) LaChance of Hammill Road, Massena passed away at St. Regis Nursing Home on March 11, 2013. She devoted her life and love until her last moments to raising her children and caring for her family. Mrs. LaChance was a 1944 graduate of Massena High School, after which she relocated to Washington D.C. where she served as a clerk for the U.S. Naval Department.

Since returning to Massena she worked as a book keeper for Hyde Plumbing and Founier Motor Sales before starting her family. Maude married Charles F. LaChance on July 25, 1959 at Holy Cross Church in Hopkinton, NY. Mrs. LaChance is survived by her husband, Charles F. LaChance, and eight adoring children: Fred LaChance of Massena, Beth Lorquet of Texas, Lisa LaChance of Massena, Ruby Christine O’Leary of Massachusetts. Richard LaChance of Massena, Gilbert LaChance of Massena, Trudy Callahan of Massena, Tina LaChance Domey of Coming, New York, one daughter-in-law, Lisa LaChance, three son-in-laws, John Callahan, Jeffrey Domey, Jeffrey Young and seven grandchildren Kadi Schantz, Timothy and Jonathan Lorquet, Erin, Mathew and Annie O’Leary, Hannah Callahan and Ethan Domey. Mrs. LaChance was predeceased by Jessie Vallance, Nora ValIance, Pearl Vallance, Charles Vallance, Arthur Vallance, Arnold Vallance, Victor Vallance, and Ruby Hewitt, and is survived by Lois Tucker, Marjorie “Ellen” Vallance, and Margaret Zahler and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. LaChance will be memorialized after a private ceremony by a grave-side service at Calvary Cemetery in the spring.
