Myers Pub in Ogdensburg has a new owner, and he wasted no time in deciding whether he was doing right thing in acquiring the popular bar.
This is what I do, said Wade A. Morrill. I have always wanted to be in the bar and restaurant business.
Mr. Morrill, 33, a native of Potsdam and a resident of Ogdensburg since 2000, bought the 17 Commerce St. establishment in November and already is making changes.
Those charges started with the menu. Myers serves food starting with its 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. luncheon specials and right on through to its 2 a.m. closing. The fare includes salads, sandwiches, burgers, wraps and all-you-can-eat shrimp on Fridays.
That kind of menu variety, Mr. Morrill said, is no stretch for him to accommodate, and he is certain that it will be well-received.
I love to cook, he said. And I want people to leave with a smile on their faces.
Mr. Morrill has also already begun to see, to him, a welcome shift away from Myers past alleged reputation as a trouble spot with occasionally unruly customers.
The patrons have been very good, he said.
Looking to the future, Mr. Morrill envisions a Myers Pub that will be a successfully entrenched part of the revitalized city marina district which is literally across the street. He is also confident that his newly-acquired enterprise business will be able to capitalize on its proximity to the Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center and its numerous activities and, eventually, the Fort La Presentation replica at Lighthouse Point.
Oh definitely, yes, he said. It will get bigger. If you build it, then it will come.
Myers Pub is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.
