POTSDAM - The Potsdam Central School District Board of Education has chosen a contractor to move ahead with work to repair aged and leaking roofs on each of the districts school buildings.
The board chose to award the work to RSI Roofing Inc., of Gouverneur, for $1.877 million. The work will replace the roofs on Lawrence Avenue Elementary School, AA Kingston Middle School, Potsdam High School and the district bus garage. The contractor will also address a drainage problem that has caused water to accumulate in a crawl space beneath the elementary school, according to Superintendent Patrick H. Brady. The crawl space has a dirt floor, and the puddling of water there has caused an odor to emanate into the schools halls, he said.
Mr. Brady said the roofs are 20 years old and need to be replaced because they are leaking. The new roofs will come with a 30-year warranty.
These are solid roofs that will last the district many years, Mr. Brady said.
Work on the roofs will begin later this month, and should be finished in October, according to Mr. Brady.
Two other contractors, Titan Roofing Inc. and Gouverneur Roofing Inc., submitted bids of $2.62 million and $3.37 million, respectively. Mr. Brady said all three were reputable contractors, and that RSI Roofing was chosen because they had the lowest bid.
Weve done a lot of work with RSI in the past, Mr. Brady said. We look forward to having RSI on this new project.
