MALONE - Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies charged an 18-year-old Malone woman on May 16 with assaulting a correction’s officer during a body cavity search at Alice Hyde Medical Center that same day.

Jatara Hyde is facing one count each of aggravated harassment of an employee by an inmate and third-degree assault.

Sgt. Barry Cartier of the sheriff’s department said deputies brought Hyde to the hospital to be searched because Malone Village Police “had information that she had suboxone on her” concealed in a body cavity. She had been arrested and committed to the Franklin County Jail by Justice Frank Cositore for a misdemeanor trespass charge. Hyde became combative at the hospital, Mr. Cartier said, and bit corrections officer Connie McDonald on the finger and spit in her face. He added state corrections officer Marilyn Cowan, who was monitoring a state inmate, heard the fracas and assisted. Ms. McDonald called in four other deputies to restrain Hyde, Mr. Cartier said.

Hyde didn’t have any drugs on her and tested negative for any saliva- or blood-borne diseases, according to Mr. Cartier.

She is currently being held on $10,000 bail or $20,000 bond, pending a future court date.
