CANTON - Laurie Hance, a 22-year veteran of the fire service, was elected as director of the Firemens Association of the State of New York (FASNY) at its 141st Annual Convention in Albany.
Hance was elected to a five-year term and will become the associations first-ever female director.
Hance has been a member of the Hannawa Falls Fire Department for 22 years, special assistant chief for 10 years, and currently serves as treasurer. She has also been a first responder and an EMT within the department. Hance has received numerous awards from her department including the 1998 Outstanding Service Award, 1999 Chiefs Award, 2001 EMS Award, 2005 Chiefs Award, and was the 2010 Firefighter of the Year.
She is a life-member of the Northern New York Volunteer Firemens Association, serving on numerous committees, including treasurer for 10 years. She is also a member of the NYS Fire Police Association and secretary of the Association of Fire Police of St. Lawrence County.
Hance has been a member of FASNY for over 10 years. She currently serves as chair of the Fire Prevention and Life Safety Committee and has been on the Membership Committee for the past three years.
Locally, Hance has worked for the town of Pierrepont for 22 years. She is employed as an administrative assistant to the Pierrepont Town Court and the Town Supervisor, and serves as the local government budget officer. Hance is certified with the NYS Office of Court Administration and the NYS Department of Criminal Justice. She is a member of St. Lawrence County Municipal Clerks Association and St. Lawrence County Magistrates Association as well as the NYS Court Clerks Association.
Hance resides in Canton and is married to M. Wayne Hance. They have two children, Paula and Angela.
