Louis “Louie” A. LaRock


Louis “Louie” A. LaRock, 86, a long time resident of Moira, entered into rest on Monday evening, September 9, 2013 with the love and support of his family at his side. Funeral arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.

Louie was born June 11, 1927 in Bangor, N.Y., the son of Lewis and Cordella (Deragon) LaRock, and attended school in Moira. On February 2, 1945, Louie willingly joined the United States Navy and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and the American Area Campaign Medal. He was united in marriage with Dorothy J. Provost on August 4, 1951 in Newton Falls, N.Y.; she predeceased him on April 19, 2005.

Throughout Louie’s life, he worked for Benson Mines in Newton Falls, owned and operated a Mobil Station on the corner of Route 11 and Route 95 in Moira, was employed for twenty-eight years with V.S. Jerry and Sons as a diesel mechanic and drove bus for the Brushton-Moira School District for ten years. In 1968, he and his wife, Dorothy, began operation of LaRock’s Liquor Store in Moira, which is still in operation today. Louie loved meeting and greeting his dedicated customers that visited the store; his smile and sense of humor would make local customers feel welcome.

Special memories will forever be in the hearts of his son and daughter-in-law, Otie and Sheila LaRock of North Bangor; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lyn and Dale Martin of Moira, and Roxy and Michael Hammett of Toano, Va.; and his loving companion, Shirley Butterfield of Hannawa Falls. Also surviving Louie are his six grandchildren and their spouses, Angela and Tom DeBeer of Moira, Jeff and Karissa Martin of Florida, Troy and Emily Martin of Brushton, Tiffany and John Weber of Tillson, N.Y., Nathan and Sheri LaRock of Constable, and Carly Hammett of Toano, Va., as well as ten great-grandchildren, Megan and Ashley DeBeer, Gage, Tanner and Ali Martin, Logan and Ellie Weber, Keegan and Jensen Martin, and Aiden LaRock.

Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Thelma Bomyea, Betty Haskell, Geraldine Hammill, James Otis LaRock, and Cathleen LaRock.

Calling hours are Friday, September 13, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flint Funeral Home in Moira. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St.Mary’s Church in Brushton with Father Christopher J. Looby presiding. Interment will commence in the parish cemetery with Military Honors.

Louie was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brushton, a former Town of Moira Councilman, and a member of the Brushton-Moira American Legion Post 939 where he was responsible for the acquisition of the T-38 plane that is mounted in front of the post. He enjoyed being around his family and friends and visiting the casino.
