MASSENA - Massena Electric Department (MED) customers will soon be able to pay their bills online, according to department officials.
MED Treasurer Jeffrey M. Dobbins said the online billing preparation process is all but finished and one of the only remaining steps is retraining office staff.
We were hopeful that they would work through some of the concerns and issues we had to get our customer information system and the third party vendor web site together and thats done. Now its just going back through and retraining staff if there are questions and then being available to answer questions if customers call with questions, Mr. Dobbins said. So thats going to occur probably through part of October.
Mr. Dobbins added that this opportunity was discussed previously around springtime, but online payment has never been available before.
The online payment would be available through a program called Invoice Cloud.
Invoice Cloud is the entity that the third party provided. Customers will have the ability to go on and view their bill, pay their bill with their debit or credit card. There will be a fee they have to pay, Mr. Dobbins said.
Theyll also have the ability to sign up for e-billing which would mean they would get their bills e-mailed to them as opposed to printing them and mailing them.
MED members discussed the probability of the technological advancement and feel that by the middle of October the process should nearly be completed. The MED has been serving customers since 1981 and according to the municipal utilitys web site they currently have over 9,000 customers.
