HOPKINTON - A bevy of food and refreshments will be available at the Hopkinton Town Hall Saturday afternoon at the Hopkinton - Fort Jackson Fire Departments chicken barbecue.
The event begins at 11 a.m. and will run until the 225 half chickens are sold out, according to Fire Chief Steve Parker.
The department hosts two different barbecues during the year, typically in May and October. Mr. Parker explained that the May gathering typically sees more action.
In May we had a bit more, probably about 300 halves. Its kind of a mix, some people come in and pick up the halves and eat it that night for dinner or something, he said. Any profits are used for any maintenance of equipment in the fire department.
The menu will include: one half chicken, salt potatoes, baked beans, rolls, beverages and desserts.
The price is $8 per meal with half chickens at $5 a piece.
Attendees are given the option of picking up food at the town hall and taking it with them or staying there to eat.
Were trying to offset taxpayers burdens with the event and improve the fire equipment. We usually do it at the lunch time hour and it gets people to stop in for lunch and then drive to the Adirondacks or something cool for the day, Mr. Parker said.
