The Massena Central and Potsdam Central varsity girls swim teams fashioned contrasting wins over division rivals in the two NAC meets on Monday.
Massena 48, OFA 46: At Massena, the visiting Lady Blue Devils built a 45-39 lead heading into the final event but the Lady Raiders were able to sweep the top two places in the 400 freestyle relay to pull off the dramatic Division I win. The quartet of Emily Hurlbut, Sydney Lewis, Kalie Peets and Abby Elman combined to pace the race in a time of 4:21.72 followed by teammates Jocelyn Bodgan, Taylor Brault, Courtnee Stowell and Emma OConnell with their time of 4:29.42, less than three seconds ahead of OFAs top entry.
Massena only logged three other first-place efforts over the course of the meet led by Emily Hurlbut, who captured both the 200 freestyle (2:14.7) and 500 freestyle (6:21.57). Baylee Carroll claimed the 50 freestyle in a time of 27.93 to account for the other Lady Raider win.
Susie Morrow (100 free, 100 back) and Julia Mullin (200IM, 100 butterfly) anchored the scoring for OFA (6-3) with two wins apiece.
Massena improved to 8-2 on the year and is slated to swim at Salmon River on Wednesday.
Potsdam 60, Salmon River 33: At Fort Covington, the visiting Lady Sandstoners (6-3) placed first in all but three races to come away with the convincing Division II win.
Ari Frascatore (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle), Emma Kroll (200IM, 100 butterfly) and Emma Visser (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle) anchored the Potsdam effort with two individual wins each. Katherine Blanchard paced the 100 backstroke to account for the other solo first posted by the Lady Sandstoners.
For the Lady Shamrocks (2-7), the team of Carly Lafrance, Clair Russell, Lauren Martin, Caroline Russell opened the meet by leading the 200 medley relay in 2:28.61. Martin posted the lone individual win for the host team after leading the 100 breaststroke and combined with the Russells and Abby Grant to claim the 200 freestyle relay in 2:14.2.
Potsdam is slated to swim at Canton on Friday.
SLC SWIMS PAST FA
In the lone NAC swim meet held on Tuesday, St. Lawrence Central notched a 58-36 Division I win on the road over Franklin Academy.
Cammie Ramsdell led the Lady Larries with wins in the 200 freestyle (2:23.18) and 500 freestyle (6:27.99). Also scoring solo firsts for SLC (6-4) were Breanna Anderson in the 200 IM with a time of 2:56.54, Hailey Arquiett in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:14.89 and Taylor Capozzi in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:15.11.
Arquiett and Capozzi also combined with Alex Craft and Madee Derouchie to capture the 200 medley relay in 2:13.35. The quartet of Derouchie, Capozzi, Ramsdell and Bailee Gauthier paced the 400 freestyle relay in 4:28.58.
Rita Mills won two races for the Lady Huskies (2-9), the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
The Lady Larries return to action next Tuesday at home against Massena.
