FORT COVINGTON - Salmon River will host the opera Molly of the Mohawks, by Augusta Cecconi-Bates, on Saturday.
As part of the celebration of National Native American Heritage Month, students and faculty and members of the Akwesasne community will join with professional singers and orchestra in this historic production. The opera tells about the Battle of Oriskany 0f 1777 while recognizing the Canadian Heroine and Loyalist, Molly Brant.
The presentation marks the continuing growth of the Salmon River Schools performing arts program. The event is open to the public. Tickets may be purchased at the door, $8 and $10. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The sponsor for the event is The Oriskany Alliance, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to the celebration of citizens bringing together diverse cultures through art.
Singing the role of Molly Brant is the internationally acclaimed soprano, Colby Thomas.
The role of Sir William Johnson will be masterfully sung by the renowned bass, Eric Johnson. Mr. Johnson created the role in the premiere in 2008.
In the role of Mollys brother, Joseph. will be Jonathan Howell. The production is under the capable direction of Charles Schneider of the Schenectady and Catskill Symphony Orchestras.
This will be the eighth performance conducted by Maestro Schneider.
