A funeral service for 82-year old Mrs. Margaret Joan “Peggy” Austin of Manlius and formerly of Potsdam will be held Saturday, November 9th at 1:00 PM at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam with Pastor John Ault officiating. Burial will follow in Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam. Friends may call at Seymour Funeral Home on Saturday from 11:00 until the time of the service at 1:00 PM.

If friends desire memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Hope Presbyterian Church, 4962 West Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse, NY 13215. Mrs. Austin died November 3, 2013 at Crouse Irving Hospital in Syracuse.

Peggy is survived by her husband Dr. John Hallock Austin of Manlius, a daughter Karen and her husband Paul Springer of Manlius, two sons Paul and his wife Sharon Austin of Webster, NY, and John Mark Austin and his wife Debbie of Los Angeles, CA. There are 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. A son Stephen Hallock Austin predeceased Peggy, as did her brother Clifford Rogers. She is also survived by sister Mary Rogers and brother Paul Rogers.

Peggy was born in Seaforth, Ontario, Canada on August 4, 1931 the daughter of Raymond C. and Willamina (Carrick) Rogers. She received a BA degree from Houghton College and taught elementary and secondary education in Montreal, Quebec, Canada before coming to New York. Peggy was married to “Jack” Austin on June 1st, 1953. For many years she assisted her husband in his medical practice in Potsdam as a Medical Secretary.

Jack and Peggy helped lead an evangelical bible study that eventually called Reverend John Ault and became the Koinonia Church in Potsdam. Arrangements are with the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam.
