MASSENA – Nine members of the Massena Cub Scouts Pack 31 got an up close look at what goes on in the newsroom Wednesday evening, during a visit to the Daily Courier-Observer’s Harrowgate Commons building.

The group learned how to conduct an interview, how to take good notes, and how the newspaper is ultimately put together six days per week.

“My favorite part was learning how to do the writing,” Cub Scout Jack Cheesman said.

“I really liked learning how newspapers were made,” George Condon III added.

The Cub Scouts did mock interviews, took notes and also looked at a newspaper from 1966.

Chase Becht noted that he was interested in the variety of jobs that a newspaper office has to offer.

“I learned about the newspaper office and all of the different things that go on there,” he said.

According to the group’s facebook page, the scouts are chartered with the First United Methodist Church and began in Oct. 2011.
