MASSENA – After a brief illness, Mrs. Georgette L. Francia, 83, of 65 Chase Street, passed away early Saturday morning, December 7, 2013, at the St. Regis Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for the past week.

Georgette was born February 26, 1930 in Massena, the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Beatrice A. Beaulne Legault. She attended Massena Central Schools. On October 29, 1949, she married Michael Francia at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Harold Martin, officiating. He predeceased her on February 10, 1991.

As a teenager, Georgette worked at the Mica Plant. She later worked at the Tri-Angle Shoe Store. After the birth of her daughter, Georgette dedicated her life to being a loving mother and wife. She was an active communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she served on various committees and the Parish Council for many years and was very active with the youth of the church. In addition, she was a member of the Massena Senior Citizens and the VFW Auxiliary and its Retirees Club. Georgette enjoyed playing cards and was an avid reader.

Georgette is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne and Edwin Roberts of Massena; her nieces and nephews, Harold and Jane Simpson of Bloomington, Indiana; David and Sandy Simpson, Sharon and Ralph Cash, Thomas and Joan Simpson, Joyce and Richard Smith, Raymond and Chris Simpson, and John and Ann Hamilton, all of Massena.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three sisters, Rita L. Aubry on July 4, 1977, Grace Y. Hamilton on October 13, 1986, and Gabriella “Judy” Simpson on November 4, 1991.

Friends may call Tuesday 1-4 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where a service celebrating her life will be held at 4:00 PM.
