CANTON — Two men were sent to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility after pleading not guilty to charges of heroin possession.

Christopher A. Lopez, 23, of Union City, N.J., and Christopher J. Sharp, 23, of 1 Ann St., Norfolk, both pleaded not guilty the felony charge of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Lopez and Sharp were arrested by the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force on Oct. 9 along with Allen J. Oshier, 30, of 94 Lincoln Ave., Waddington, and Christopher J. Hughes, 32, of 81 Grantville Road, Norfolk.

The arrest followed a traffic stop on Route 36 in the town of Louisville, where a sheriff’s department K-9 unit and deputies said a subsequent free air sniff of the vehicle’s exterior led to the discovery of 21 packets of heroin.

Lopez was returned to St. Lawrence County jail, where he is being held on $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.

St. Lawrence County Judge Jerome J. Richards ordered Sharp to be drug tested by probation officials, and he subsequently tested positive for marijuana, cocaine and opiates.

Judge Richards sent Sharp, who had previously been released from St. Lawrence County jail on $5,000 bail, back to jail without bail.

Oshier will be arraigned on Dec. 16

Hughes, who pleaded not guilty to the charge in October after the arrest and was originally released under probation supervision, is now being held in county jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 for violating his release under probation supervision.
