Massea, SLC notch NAC Central hoops wins

The Massena Central and St. Lawrence Central varsity girls basketball teams pulled away to NAC Central Division wins on Monday.

Massena 66, Potsdam 27: At Massena, the Lady Raiders went into halftime leading 27-20 before breaking the game open with 21 unanswered third-quarter points.

Samanntha Villnave had 10 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double in four games this season as the Lady Raiders improved to 3-1. She also notched four steals, blocked two hots and handed out two assists. Jaylee Jones had her first double-digit scoring effort on the varsity level with 12 points while grabbing six rebounds, handing out four assists and pulling off three steals. Jessica Rode also made lead all-around contributions with 11 points, four boards and three steals. Robin Boudreau tallied seven points, 10 baords, two assists and two steals. Stgephanie McKeel came off the bench to log five points followed by Bryaunna Murray with four points and seven rebounds. Devin Kelly (4 steals) and Sophia Rusaw added three points apiece while Katelynn Malone closed out the Massena scoresheet with two points.

Katherine Blanchard led the Lady Sandstoners (0-5, 0-4) with seven points. Kayla Phillips produced six points, five rebounds and two steals. Hannah Yaketta (6 rebounds) and Courtney DiTullio contributed five points each while Alexis Peterson (5 rebounds, 3 steals) accounted for the other four.

SLC 47, Gouverneur 24: In Brasher Falls, the Lady Larries (2-2) built a 22-10 halftime lead then took control with a 12-2 third-quarter run before going on to post their second straight Central win.

Lindsey Thayer (14 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals) and Chelsea Savage anchored the winning effort with 12 points apiece. Bailee Gauthier generated 10 points, 14 rebounds, nine steals and nine assists. Morgan Greer chipped in five points while Breanna Evans and Haleigh Agans both netted four and Abby Taylor the other two.

Danielle Bullock paced the Lady Wildcats (0-4, 0-3) with eight points followed by Alisha Way with six.

In the lone other NAC girls basketball matchup played Monday, Brushton-Moira turned back Parishville-Hopkinton 44-24.
