Helen E. (Brosnan) Mahoney, age 97 of 533 State Street in Ogdensburg and River Road East Morristown, passed away (Dec 15, 2013) at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. Funeral arrangements are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Marys Cathedral in the spring with burial to follow in the family plot in St. Marys Cemetery.
Surviving are three sons; John of Mystic CT, Thomas of Tampa FL and Kevin of Syracuse; a daughter Mrs. James (Anne) Frisina of Ogdensburg; two sister-in-laws Mrs. Robert (Marguerite) Pratt of Romeo MI and Mrs. Richard (Mary) Hawes of Malone; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Dr. John W. Mahoney, an infant son David Casselman Mahoney; a sister Phyllis Brosnan; a sister-in-law Mrs. Edmund (Frances) Sheehan; a brother-in-law James Mahoney and a grandson James J. Frisina.
Helen was born on November 22, 1916 in Ogdensburg, NY the daughter of Captain Harold and Maude (Murphy) Brosnan. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and Miss Wallaces Secretarial School. She married Dr. John (Wells) Mahoney on June 4, 1942 at the old St. Marys Cathedral with Rt. Rev. Louis D. Berube officiating. They celebrated their 50th wedding Anniversary in 1992.
The couple lived at various Naval Stations during World War II while Dr. Mahoney served in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps. They later returned to Ogdensburg at the end of the war to operate their long standing dental practice.
Helen was a member of the St. Marys Cathedral Parish and St. John the Baptist Church in Morristown. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, listening to classical music, spending time at her camp on the St. Lawrence River and visiting with friends and family.
