M-W girls run past C-P for NAC East basketball win

COLTON - The Madrid-Waddington varsity girls basketball team steadily pulled away to a 66-27 NAC East Division win on the road over Colton-Pierrepont on Tuesday.

After trading baskets in the opening minute, the Lady Yellowjackets scored the final 12 points of the first quarter in building a 17-4 lead then put the game out of reach with a 20-9 second-quarter surge that made it 37-9 at the half.

Desiree Pryce generated 16 points and eight rebounds leading M-W (4-1, 3-0). Tess Knight tallied eight points and five assists. Sam Dugan added seven points followed by Jenn King with six and Kaleigh Field with five.

Morgan Doyle fired in a game-high 21 points for the Lady Colts (1-3, 1-2 NAC East). Courtney Marsh, Eve Whalen and Kelsi Gilbert each contributed two.

In junior varsity action, Madrid-Waddington won 51-35.

The Lady Colts continue a busy week before the Holiday Break this evening when they play at East Division rival Chateaugay before gearing up to compete at the annual Cindy Brady Memorial Tournament hosted by Heuvelton Central this weekend. M-W will be heading to Ogdensburg this weekend to play in the annual Ben Cordwall Memorial Tournament.

In other NAC East action Tuesday night, Tupper Lake edged host Norwood-Norfolk 27-26 and Chateaugay rolled past St. Regis Falls 55-22.

Chateaugay 55, SRF 22: Danielle Charland tossed through 14 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs (2-1, 2-0). Katie Beach and Young added nine points each.

Madison Greenwood paced the Lady Saints (1-2) with a game-high 15 points.


A pair of Central Division games saw OFA drop Salmon River OFA 59-28 and Franklin Academy outlast Canton 73-68 in double overtime.

OFA 59, Salmon River 28: OFA dropped in 15 points in the first quarter and added 11 more before the halftime break and led the SRC girls 26-10.

It was more of the same in the second half to the understaffed Shamrocks, as the lady Devils dropped in 33 points over the final 16 minues to move to 3-1 in league play.

OFA (4-2, 3-1) had three players reach double figures, as the trio of Susie Morrow (17), Meg Dodge(15) and Riley Luckie (10) combined for 42 of the Devils’ 59 points.

Kwiio King paced Salmon River(2-2) with 10 points followed by Taylor Francis with nine, Jaden Mitchell with six and Jocelyn Martin with three.

FA 73, Canton 68 (2OT): In an early-season matchup of unbeaten division leaders staged at Jerry Hourihan Gym, the visiting Lady Huskies survived a fourth-quarter comeback and a last-second Canton shot to end the first overtime in raising their Central record to 4-0.

Rachel Lamica fired through 22 points and Morgan Fountain struck for another 19 to lead the Lady Huskies while Taylor Poirier contributed 10 points.

Tori Daley struck for a game-high 28 points in the losing cause. Emily Pinckney netted another 16 followed by Kali Frank with 14.


In NAC West Division games on Tuesday, the Hammond boys dropped Hermon-DeKalb 59-42 and the Morristown girls beat Lisbon 48-35.
