COLTON - For the fifth consecutive year, the town of Colton is opening their doors to the community during the season of giving.

The annual Community Christmas Dinner will take place beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the J.R. Watson Community Center in South Colton.

There is no charge for the meal, and transportation and/or delivery can be arranged.

Those interested in attending or scheduling a delivery are asked to contact Colton Town Clerk Donna Arquiett at 262-2810, ext. 1, 262-3102, or 323-6893.

“The last few years have been pretty consistent with the same attendees and volunteers. It’s been between 60 and 70 people in the past few years. I expect it to be the same this year,” Ms. Arquiett said. “(The event) started with a phone call to my office from one of the residents looking for someone to share a Christmas meal with because she didn’t want to eat alone. I figured that she can’t be the only one. She called late in the season so we started it the next year.”

Deliveries will begin at noon on Christmas Day, and all of the food is provided by various donors.

“We do a full turkey dinner, and we also have ham,” Ms. Arquiett said. “All of the desserts are homemade. We usually have plenty of pies available to the attendees.”

The J.R. Watson Community Center is located at 9 Sugar Bush Lane in South Colton.
