MASSENA - It won’t be long after the new year rolls around that the Greater Massena Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its first event of 2014.

The annual luncheon, which is sponsored by NBT Bank, will be held at noon Jan. 9 at Dar’s Place, corner of Main and West Orvis streets. The cost is $12.50 per person, which includes tax and tip, and RSVPs are required by 12 p.m. Jan. 2.

The meal includes a choice of large garden salad, hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes or French fries or shaved prime rib sandwich with choice of mashed potatoes or French fries.

The luncheon includes the annual organizational and general membership meeting, with the installation of officers, as well as the latest inductions into the chamber’s Hall of Fame. It will also include a recap of the chamber’s 2013 accomplishments.

The invitations were sent out last week, according to chamber board President Miriam S. Catapano.

“We put (the Hall of Fame induction notice) on the invitation, so hopefully they’ll be able to attend,” she said.

Chamber members will have an opportunity to vote on proposed by-law and constitution changes.

The proposed by-law change includes replacing executive director with director and removing a sentence that reads, “The St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corp. shall appoint a non-voting representative to the board of directors for the period of one year.”

The proposed constitution changes include removing the sentence, “The board of directors shall meet monthly, with the exception of the month of July.” It also revises one article to indicate the board will consist of 17 rather than 18 directors, 11 rather than 12 elected members, and five appointed members as well as the immediate past president. It removes a sentence that designates a non-voting seat to the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corp.

Chamber officials said in June they had been advised by the Seaway’s legal counsel that they can no longer have a representative fill that seat.

“The St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation can have no seat on the chamber board in the future. Their legal counsel called and said we cannot have one on there,” then chamber Executive Director Michael J. Gleason told the board in June.

This year’s luncheon will include the giveaway of a pair of tickets to a St. Lawrence University home hockey game, a pair of tickets to a Clarkson University home hockey game and a pair of Cape Air round-trip tickets from Massena to Albany or Boston.

“Everybody who comes get a raffle ticket,” Ms. Catapano said.
