Massena Nursery School Holding Christmas Miracle fundraising drive

MASSENA - Since it first opened in 1959, the Massena Nursery School has literally seen thousands of students walk through its doors, and it’s with their alumni in mind that the school is conducting its latest fundraising drive.

“We’re calling it the One Dollar Christmas Miracle Drive,” said Nursery School Board President Renee M. Barto. “From every alum who has attended Massena Nursery School, we would like to collect a donation of at least $1. If we could collect $1 from everyone, it would be thousands of dollars.”

Throw in the parents and grandparents of former students and the effort could raise even more money.

As part of the fundraising effort, Ms. Barto said the school is posting its former class photos on its Facebook page and tagging people in them as the like the school’s page, which may be found by searching for “Massena Nursery School” on Facebook.

“If you would like to see a photo from a particular year, let us know and we’ll try to find it and get it up on the page,” Ms. Barto said, adding all of the proceeds will be used to help keep the school open for many more years to come.

While Ms. Barto did not attend Massena Nursery School, she said she’s seen firsthand why the school is so important to the community.

“My daughter attends there, and I can see the positive effects it has had on the kids,” she said.

Parents who would like to send their children to Massena Nursery School may still do so for the current school year.

“We have open enrollment through the end of January,” she said, adding students must be at least three-years-old and potty trained.

The school, which receives no government support, relies solely on donations and tuition for funding. They will also be holding several other fundraisers in the months ahead.

“We’re doing a number of other fundraisers and would like to involve the whole community, rather than just the parents at the school,” she said.

Up next for the school is a spaghetti dinner hosted by the Elks Lodge from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 1. The meal will cost $10 for adults for $5 for children under 12, and this spring the school will again host its annual Kid’s Fest.

Ms. Barto said they would like to have all donations collected for the school’s current fundraising drive by the end of January.

To make your contribution stop by the school, which is open from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, in accordance with the Massena Central School District calendar. Donations may also be mailed to Massena Nursery School, PO Box 506, Massena NY 13662.
