GRAND LARCENY - MASSENA - A Massena woman was jailed Thursday after being charged with a felony count stemming from an investigation into a Dec. 2 shoplifting complaint at Walmart.
Village police charged Courtney E. Lashomb, 23, of 82 Cook St., Massena, with fourth-degree grand larceny. She was arraigned by Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
Police had previously charged Jamie L. Northrup, 36, of 351 East Orvis St., Massena, with fourth-degree grand larceny in connection with that incident.
Police said the warrant was based on a shoplifting complaint from Walmart on Dec. 2 alleging Northrup and Lashomb had walked past the last point of sale at the store without paying for $1,341.12 worth of merchandise. A store loss prevention associate told police Northrup placed two Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy II cell phones, each valued at $399, a variety of groceries and laundry supplies ranging from laundry soap to bleach amd from steak and potatoes to ice cream and clothing items including lingerie in a shopping cart and then walked past the last point of sale without paying for the items. She was assisted in the effort by Lashomb, according to court documents.
Lashomb had also been charged with petit larceny early last month stemming from a shoplifting complaint from an anchor store at the St. Lawrence Centre mall.
