POTSDAM - The Potsdam Central girls hockey overcame a 1-0 first intermission deficit in a big way on Friday.
After giving up the only goal of the opening frame, the Lady Sandstoners netted four goals over the first six minutes of the second and never looked back in notching a 10-1 win over Section 10 rival Salmon River in a late afternoon matchup at Pine Street Arena.
The Lady Shamrocks produced the lone goal of the first period when Taylor Armstrong converted on a breakaway with 6:00 left.
Jayden Young tied the game just 18 seconds into the second period assisted by Ally Miller, who struck for the eventual winning goal at the 3:08 mark off assists from Kirstin Barkley and Megan Plumb. Miller would go on to generate three goals and four assists as the Lady Sandstoners reeled off six second-period goals.
Plumb wound up with two goals and two helpers. Barkley finished with a pair of goals and a solo assist. Paige McCabe and eighth-grader Hannah Dreschel fashioned the other Potsdam goals. Jenny Tardelli and Young both logged a pair of assists while Kalie Grant supplied a solo helper.
Allie Compeau made five saves through the first half of the game between the pipes for Potsdam while Sidney Molnar stopped the four shots she faced the rest of the way. Becca Leroux (25 saves) and Abby Grant (5 saves) combined to work the Salmon River crease.
The Lady Sandstoners (5-2, 3-0) are slated to host Albany Academy today at 1 p.m. at Pine Street Arena.
