MASSENA - While money was included for the trip in the budget last year, no members of the town board attended the annual New York State Association of Towns Conference in New York City.
This year two newly elected board members Samuel D. Carbone and Thomas C. Miller may be making the trip.
We didnt go last year, because its expensive, said Councilman Albert N. Nicola, who added that with last years steep tax increase it would have been hard to justify the expense.
Town Supervisor Joseph D. Gray, who said hes been to the conference twice, called the trip money well spent. Its not just a party. Its very educational, Mr. Gray said, adding he would recommend the experience for new board members.
Its a very busy agenda, and its a great opportunity for networking.
Mr. Miller was named voting delegate for the town with Mr. Carbone named alternate delegate.
The conference will be held Feb. 16-19 and both men said their attendance would depend on whether they could get the time off from work.
The board also voted to approve a similar trip for Town Clerk Georgette Davis.
Ms. Davis was given permission to attend the annual Town Clerks conference, which will this year be held in Saratoga, as well as other education seminars and training sessions.
Travel, lodging and meals for these trips will be paid for by the town upon receipt of itemized vouchers at a regularly scheduled town board meeting.
