SUNY Canton, SLU teams dealt Sunday setbacks

MIDDLETOWN, Ct. - Jay Matthews scored 5:12into the third period as the Wesleyan men’s hockey team withstood three third-period goals to hold off SUNY Canton 4-3 for a nonconference victory at home Sunday afternoon.

Connor Ryan and Keith Buehler also provided goals, while Dawson Sprigings made 20 saves for the Cardinals (7-2-1 overall).

Sam McLaughlin tallied a goal and an assist, and Morgan Barr stopped 40 shots for the Kangaroos (2-11-1).

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

Robert Morris 3, SLU 0: Jessica Dodds claimed her fourth shutout of the season by making 32 saves to give the Colonials a nonconference win over the Saints in Pittsburgh.

Thea Imbrogno supplied a goal and an assist for Robert Morris (18-3-1).

Carmen MacDonald collected 17 saves for St. Lawrence (6-11-1).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Williams 50, SLU 38: Kellie MacDonald posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds as the fourth-ranked Ephs pulled away in the second half to beat the Saints in nonconference play at Williamstown, Mass.

Ellen Cook also scored 12 points for Williams (12-0).

Kara McDuffee generated 11 points and 11 rebounds for St. Lawrence (3-5).

Wells 64, SUNY Canton 54: Ashley Roser registered 26 points and 12 rebounds as the Express defeated the Kangaroos in a nonconference game in Canton.

Kaitlynne Knapp chipped in with 11 points for Wells (5-4).

Former Salmon River Central standout Karyss Terrance paced SUNY Canton (2-7) with 18 points and 15 rebounds.

The Lady Roos were slated to play at SUNY Alfred on Monday but that game was postponed.
