MASSENA – Mr. Lawrence O. Butch Monroe, 59, of 72 Center Street, peacefully passed away Friday afternoon, January 3, 2014 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice.
Butch was born December 4, 1954 in Massena, the son of the late Carl G. and Joy Gardner Monroe. He graduated from Massena Central School and attended BOCES in Norwood. He once worked as a foreman in the shipping and receiving department with MacCristys Industries in New Britain, Connecticut. He enjoyed doing carpentry work, gardening, and being outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Luther), who he married on March 6, 1976; two daughters, Stephanie and Kimberly Monroe, both of Connecticut; 5 grandchildren; his brothers, John and Robyn Monroe of Norfolk; Roger Monroe of Chase Mills; Mark and Ricky Monroe, both of Connecticut; his sisters, Martha Deshane, Susan and Darrill Mitchell, and Dale Monroe, all of Connecticut; his stepsisters, Julie Monroe of North Carolina and Corrine Colangelo of Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or the Massena Humane Society.
The family wishes to extend their deepest thanks and gratitude to his sisters-in-law, Eileen Morehouse and Robyn Monroe, his aunt, Katherine Carrier, and Hospice for their love and support during Butchs illness.
