BRASHER FALLS - The St. Lawrence Central varsity girls basketball team opened the new year by turning back NAC Central Division rival Salmon River 60-42 on Tuesday.
Lindsey Thayer fired through 24 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, notched five steals and blocked three shots to anchor the winning effort as the Lady Larries erased a 12-9 deficit at the end of the first quarter with a 15-3 second-quarter run before going on to outscore the Lady Shamrocks (2-3, 2-3) 36-27 in the second half. Bailee Gauthier also made lead all around contributions with 12 points, 12 boards, eight steals and three blocks). Chelsea Savage tallied 11 points, seven rebounds and two steals while Haleigh Agans generated six points, 10 rebounds and one steal. Breanna Evans chipped in three points. Morgan Greer and Jenna Kesner closed out the SLC scoresheet with two points each.
Jaden Mitchell paced the Lady Shamrocks with 13 points followed by Taylor Francis with 12, Brittany Brooks with seven, Lexis Jacobs with six, Jocelyn Martin with four and Tiffany Bran with one.
The Lady Larries (5-2, 4-3) are slated to travel to Malone on Friday to take on Franklin Academy.
In the other NAC Central Division action on Tuesday, FA outscored Massena 51-29 while OFA downed Potsdam 63-37. The Gouverneur vs. Canton game slated to be staged at SUNY Canton was postponed.
FA 51, Massena 29: In Massena, Rachel Lamica netted 14 points and McDonald tossed through another 12 as the visiting Lady Huskies improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 atop the Central Division standings. OConnor chipped in nine points while Poirier and Marshall each netted six.
Samanntha Villnave paced the Lady Raiders (3-5, 2-3) with eight points. Stephanie McKeel added seven points followed by Devin Kelly with five, Jessica Rode with four, Maeve Curran with three and Jaylee Jones with two.
OFA 63, Potsdam 37: In Potsdam, the Lady Blue Devils (5-3, 4-1) pulled away from a 19-11 halftime lead for the win as Riley Luckie struck for a game-high 24 points followed by Meg Dodge with 17 and Susie Morrow with six.
Sarah Vivlamore netted 13 points for the Lady Sandstoners (1-8, 0-6). Courtney DiTullio added six followed by Kayla Phillips with five. Bre Sapp and Emily Berger added four apiece. Jade Garfield scored three and Hannah Yaketta accounted for the other two.
In the lone NAC West Division girls basketball games played on Tuesday, Hammond outscored Lisbon 57-31. Harrisville at Heuvelton and Edwards-Knox at Morristown were both postponed to tonight.
