Potsdam girls skate to shutout win over Lake Placid

POTSDAM - The Potsdam Central girls hockey team netted a 3-0 intersectional win over Lake Placid on Wednesday at Pine Street Arena.

Jayden Young broke through for the opening goal just 13 seconds into the middle frame. Kalie Grant made it 2-0 at 6:35 of the third period off an assist from Kirstin Barkley. Paige McCabe sealed the win at the 11:05 mark assisted by Grant.

Allie Compeau (5 saves) and Sidney Molnar (6 saves) combined to backstop the shutout while Tanner Stanton turned aside 36 shots for the Blue Bombers.

Now 6-2-1 overall, the Lady Sandstoners head to Central New York this weekend for games at Ithaca on Friday at 7 p.m. and Oswego on Saturday at 10:15 a.m.

Another high school girls hockey game played on Wednesday saw Canton down Section 10 rival St. Lawrence 6-1 while Oswego at Massena was postponed due to the lingering effects of a massive lake effect snow storm.

Canton 6, SLC 1: At the Canton Pavilion, the Lady Golden Bears broke open a close game with four second-period goals.

Margret Troiano led the way offensively with the first three goals and the final Canton tally in the third period. Natalie Giglio added a goal and assist. Blake Orosz connected for the other goal while Mimi Husinec and Molly Curtis each logged a pair of assists and Angelina Vecchio earned a solo helper.

Katie Lamica spoiled the Canton shutout bid with an unassisted goal at 11:40 of the third period.

Elizabeth Burke made 17 saves in the winning effort while Holly Zeldenrust stopped 29 shots for the Lady Larries.
