Condlin helps lift SLU men past Union in league hoops opener


SCHENECTADY - Former Massena Central standout Brady Condlin made a layup with 10 seconds left to lift the St. Lawrence University men’s basketball team to a 79-78 victory over Union in its Liberty League opener Friday night.

Condlin scored 14 of his game-high 27 points in the second half for the Saints (4-5 overall, 1-0 conference). Al Jones added 17 points for SLU.

Terrel Winney scored 23 points for Union (3-6, 0-1).

SUNY Brockport 75, SUNY Potsdam 57: John Ivy poured in 26 points as the Golden Eagles beat the Bears in a SUNYAC game in Potsdam.

Clifton Lyerly added 13 points for Brockport (7-1, 1-0), which led 43-25 at halftime.

Potsdam (2-8, 0-3) was led by Rishawd Hendricks with 13 points. Rob Duquette added 12 and Zac Adams 11.


SLU 55, Union 50: Kelly Legg drained the go-ahead 3-pointer with one minute, 36 seconds left, and the Saints closed with seven unanswered points to win their Liberty League opener over the Dutchmen (7-3 overall, 0-2 conference) in Schenectady.

Legg finished with 11 points and team highs of 11 rebounds and seven blocks for St. Lawrence (4-5, 1-0).

SUNY Brockport 65, SUNY Potsdam 60: Alexandra Marshall scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles (5-3, 1-0) past the host Bears in a SUNYAC game in Potsdam.

Hannah Kmiecinski and Jessica Kouzan scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, to pace SUNY Potsdam (3-7, 1-2).


Castleton State 6, SUNY Potsdam 2: Kyle Pichler’s shorthanded goal with 58 seconds left in the first period capped a three-goal first period as the Spartans downed the Bears in nonconference play at Potsdam.

Will Laking, Colin Murray and Pichler each collected a goal and an assist for Castleton St. (8-6-1), which scored the first six goals of the game.

Mike Arnold and Todd Thomas netted goals for SUNY Potsdam (5-8-0).


Chatham 6, SUNY Canton 0: Katrina Hawkins notched a hat trick as the Cougars blanked the Kangaroos (4-10-2) for a nonconference win in Canton.

Megan Buchanan made 23 saves for her first shutout of the season for Chatham (3-7-2).
