NORFOLK - The Norwood-Norfolk boys and girls varsity basketball teams gained a home sweep over NAC East Division rival Parishville-Hopkinton for their first wins of the season on Monday.
N-N 44, P-H 31: In the first game of the double-header, the Flyers (1-7, 1-6) relayed a 16-8 first-quarter lead into their first win of the season.
Sophomore Devin Guyette had a game-high 15 points in the winning effort. Garrett Waite and Dustin Fisher each netted 10 points followed by Ian St. Andrews with five.
For the Panthers (2-9, 1-6), Wyatt Snell tossed through 14 points. Kobe Wells added eight followed by Mike Burns with five and Connor Sullivan with four.
The Lady Flyers (1-6, 1-5) held on for a 33-28 decision over the Lady Panthers (3-3, 3-3) in the nightcap. No further details were made available by the N-N coaching staff by presstime.
OTHER EAST GIRLS
In other NAC East Division girls basketball matchups on Monday, Madrid-Waddington outscored Chateaugay 48-40, St. Regis Falls outlasted Tupper Lake 53-51 and Brushton-Moira stopped Colton-Pierrepont 56-26.
M-W 48, Chateaugay 40: In Chateaugay, the Lady Yellowjackets (8-1, 6-0) pulled away from a 27-17 halftime lead with a 15-6 third-quarter run before going on to hand the Lady Bulldogs their first league loss of the season Tess Knight tossed through 17 points, including 10 from the foul line, to anchor the winning offense. Olivia Parmenter chipped in another 10 followed by Jenny King with eight, Desiree Pryce with seven, Hannah Marcellus with three and Kennedy Murray with one.
Katie Beach paced the Chateaugay (6-2, 5-1) effort with 17 points. Caitlin Miller added nine points followed by Danielle Charland with seven, Abby Barnes with four, Hannah Cook with two and Taylor Winch with one.
SRF 53, Tupper Lake 51: At Tupper Lake, Jenna Susice capped a 19-point performance by converting a lay-up off an in-bounds play with two seconds left to lift the visiting Lady Saints to the win. Madison Greenwood drilled five three-pointers to account for her 15-point contribution while Brianah Work scored seven of her 15 points from the foul line.
Lizzie Zurek and Katie Zurek anchored the Lumberjacks scoring with 12 points each. Amie Luton chipped in nine followed by Lindsey Maroun with eight while Malorie McLear tallied seven points and nine rebounds.
B-M 56, C-P 26: In Brushton, the host Lady Panthers (4-3, 4-2) pulled away from a 23-17 halftime lead for the win. Brushton-Moira had a pair of players post double-doubles, with Kirsten Barrett leading the way with 19 points and 16 rebounds, as Megan Martin followed with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Micaela McCarthy also reached double figures in points, tossing in 15 points while combining with Jenna Dufrane for 13 rebounds.
Morgan Doyle netted 18 points in the losing cause. Andrea Aldous chipped in four followed by Courtney Marsh and Eva Whalen with two apiece as C-P slipped to 3-9 overall and 3-5 in the East.
