Massena Central turned back Gouverneur 39-32 while Salmon River outlasted Potsdam 52-51 in NAC Central Division varsity girls basketball games on Monday.
The other game of the night saw Canton down St. Lawrence Central 61-42.
Massena 39, Gouverneur 32: At the Massena High School gym, senior forward Samanntha Villnave worked the paint for 14 points and 17 rebounds as the Lady Raiders gradually pulled away from a 13-12 halftime lead. Jaylee Jones added seven points and three steals toward the winning effort. Robin Boudreau and Jessica Rode (11 rebounds, 3 steals) added six points each followed by Maeve Curran with four and Stephanie McKeel with two.
Rebecca Bulsiewicz paced the Lady Wildcats (3-6, 0-6) with 10 points. Danielle Bullock and Alisha Way each netted six followed by Haley Easton with five, Emily Bush with three and Jessica Rotundo with two.
Massena also win the JV game.
The varsity Lady Raiders improved to 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the Central Division with the win and will now get set to travel to Fort Covington on Thursday to take on Salmon River.
Salmon River 52, Potsdam 51: In Potsdam, the visiting Lady Shamrocks (4-3, 4-3) steadily worked their way to a 29-15 halftime lead and were ahead 41-28 after three quarters before the Lady Sandstoners put together a 23-12 run to make it a one-point game.
The trio of Kwiio King (9 rebounds, 7 assists), Jaden Mitchell (5 steals) and Taylor Francis (3 assists, 3 rebounds) anchored the Salmon River with 13 point apiece. Jocelyn Martin added six followed by Brittany Brooks with three, Tsiotenhariio Herne with two and Lexis Jacobs with one.
Junior Sarah Vivlamore generated 23 of her season-high 27 points in the second half to spark the Lady Sandstoners (1-9, 0-7). Bre Sapp chipped in nine points. Courtney DiTullio, Kayla Phillips and Alexis Peterson contributed four points each followed by Matisyn Beamer with two and Katherine Blanchard with one.
The Lady Shamrocks host Massena on Thursday while Potsdam travels to Brasher Falls to take on St. Lawrence Central.
Canton 61, SLC 42: At the SUNY Canton fieldhouse, the Lady Golden Bears (6-2, 5-1) took control of a close game with an 18-9 third-quarter run. Emily Pinckney went 11-11 from the foul line in leading the way offensively for Canton with 21 points. Tori Daley tossed through another 14 points followed by Rachel Sanderson with eight, Natalie DiSalvo with seven, Kali Frank with five, Mikeala Bessette with four and Katie Clemmer with two.
For the Lady Larries (5-3, 4-4), Chelsea Savage netted 12 points followed by Bailee Gauthier with 10. Jenna Kesner and Breanna Evans each netted seven while Morgan Greer accounted for the other six.
The Lady Larries are slated to host Potsdam on Thursday.
