Knot Just Donutz and More will go on hiatus for the next few months as owners work out a plan to restructure the bakery.
The bakery, 601 Canton St., first opened its doors in July 2012. However, struggling doughnut sales have forced owners Stephen and Angela Ritchie to temporarily close up shop and rethink their business model.
Mr. Ritchie said the bakerys isolated location coupled with competition from nearby Tim Hortons on Route 37 contributed to low sales.
All the doughnuts and baked goods were made by hand each night, unlike Tim Hortons, whose products are usually frozen, Mr. Ritchie said Friday.
When it reopens at its new location, the bakery will focus on specialty items, such as cream puffs, breads, rolls and cakes, Mr. Ritchie said.
Were still doing specialty orders, Mr. Ritchie said. People can still call us, and we set up everything up.
The bakerys new location and opening date has not yet been set.
Right now everything is still up in the air, Mr. Ritchie said.
