OGDENSBURG — Ogdensburg Family Practice is expanding, opening room for more patients.

Following the retirement of cardiologist Dr. Jamie W. Hynd, who had a practice in the 921 State St. building, the clinic is hoping to see up to 80 patients a day. The current patient load is about 60 per day.

Dr. Chris E. Comeau said the increased availability stems from staffing additions that have been made over the last several months.

Dr. J. Christopher Williams retired from the Emergency Department at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, in the fall, and will return full time to the Ogdensburg medical practice.

Both Dr. Comeau and Dr. Williams have emergency room experience. Dr. Williams over the years has served as the director of emergency medicine at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, and at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

The clinic has also welcomed a new family nurse practitioner, Kristine Hurlbut.

“We’re going to be able to see more patients and be a bigger operation,” Dr. Comeau said.

With 10 rooms available to see patients, Dr. Comeau said they hope to help fill some of the need for primary care in the Ogdensburg area.

“There is a significant shortage of primary care in St. Lawrence County,” he said. “It’s just atrocious.”

With the staffing increases Dr. Comeau said they are able to see patients from the kindergarten age on up and provide a wide range of services including gynecological care.

Their focus is on preventative care, Dr. Comeau said.

“Our goal is same-day appointments if you’re ill, and we have the capabilities to provide very broad services,” Dr. Williams said.

The clinic, which has been open since 1997, is here to stay, Dr. Williams said.

Dr. Williams said that they plan on staying in Ogdensburg “until death do us part.”

The practice can be reached at 393-9268.
